Pharmacy volunteers help the 10th Med Group provide timely services to patients (active duty, family members and retirees) by dispensing prescription medications at both the USAFA Main and Community Center pharmacies. Duties include sorting and shelfing prescriptions received from an offsite automated pharmacy, shelfing medications as the pharmacists fill prescriptions and quickly and accurately dispensing medications to patients. Most volunteers are military retirees and/or their spouses. After receiving training, volunteers are scheduled one 4 ½ hour shift per week (8am-12:30pm, or 12:30pm-5pm). The schedule is very flexible allowing time off as necessary. A military issued ID is required for access to both facilities. Contact Post Quartermaster Tom Dowd 228-365-3422
The U.S. Air Force Academy Community Service Center Pharmacy Tactical Volunteer Team assists in the dispensing of prescriptions to veterans and dependents. Working with an active duty unit to assist in their daily tasks is one way a Tactical Volunteer may be utilized. We look for positions on the Academy grounds, and in other organizations, where we can assist. Part of our task is to identify those areas where our volunteerism will help the mission of the organization to be accomplished. Identifying those positions is everyone’s job. Just let us know. At present we have 5 volunteers in active participation at USAFA. They are Mark Damschen, Teressa Glavan, Tom Dowd, Eric Worley, and Bernard Minetti.
